DL380 G8 can not get to array controller utility

DL380 G8

128 GB RAM

6 900 GB SAS 10K drives

8GB FC HBA

Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise

-=-=-=-

The server is already built and patched. Now I would like to go in an configure the remaining drive space. I boot the machine (S L O W    B O O T    T I M E) and mash the F5 key at the appropriate prompt. It sits there for a bit, the screen goes black and boots to Windows.

I am hesitant to use the F10 key for fear the intelligent setup is not so intelligent. I would hate to have to start all over.

Is it normal for these server to take 4 minutes to boot? I have 15 of these and they all take forever to come up.

Thank,

Ed

Can't you install the Windows ACU utility and configure the RAID from within Windows?

Thanks, believe it or not I have never configured a RAID system with the operating system running. Still shaking my head.

Since you're pressing F5 to configure the array controller, we are assuming you have a DL380e Gen8 system. The "e" series uses the b320i smart array controller. Pressing F5 should launch you into the ACU utility contained within Intelligent Provisioning.

During POST pressing F10 and starting Intelligent Provisioning won't wipe out anything you've already configured unless you select the option to do so. I'd suggest launching ACU from within Intelligent Provisioning.

G7 and Gen8 systems do take a few minutes to boot. The more memory the system hast he longer it takes as there are some checks done during POST.

I can't say I've seen your issue before, but you might try checking for an update to Intelligent Provisioning
