DL380G5 slow network file transfers

Hi,
i have a new DL380 G5 and something semms to be wrong with the network adapters. When i try to copy a big file (3GB) to a network share on an other computer, it takes the whole night to do this. I also have DL380 G4 servers that work perfect. I changed the cable, the ports at the switch, but no change.
Any ideas ?

Re: DL380G5 slow network file transfers

In Windows OSes I have seen improved performance after switching the link speed and duplex settings on the advanced tab of the adapter properties page. (This can also be done through the HP Network Teaming Utility.)

The default is Auto/Auto but switching to 1000/Full or whatever capability you currently support might improve things.

If you are using a managed switch, you should also set the speed and duplex on it.

Re: DL380G5 slow network file transfers

thank you for your help, but setting the NIC and Switches from Auto to 1GBfull did not solve the problem.
Any more ideas ?

Re: DL380G5 slow network file transfers

Are you able to monitor the switch port for errors ?

That might give a clue as to where the fault lies.

You might also want to check that you're using the latest drivers for the NICs.

Cheers,

there are no errors at the port and i have installed the latest drivers 2 days before.

Re: DL380G5 slow network file transfers

Are there comparable disk systems between the servers...?

Could it be that the problem is actually reading the source file from the disks on the G5 rather than the speed of the network...?

Cheers,

Re: DL380G5 slow network file transfers

The DL380 G5 has a P400 Controller with 2 72GB SAS 10K U/min disks in a RAID 1.
One of the DL380 G4 has a SmartArray 6i Controller with 2 36GB SCSI Ultra 320 disks in a RAID 1+0.
The G4 works perfect.

Re: DL380G5 slow network file transfers

Try to test it with small files (100 MB total).

Do you have net teaming on those?

Re: DL380G5 slow network file transfers

it's the same with small files and i have no net teaming. Just one NIC is connected and it is the same with the other NIC.
