Dl380G6 RAID 10 Expand
Currently has 4 146g drives in RAID 10 and want to add 2 more. I only have remote access to this server at the moment. How do I tell if the p410i controller will support expanding the RAID to include 2 more drives? I'm not sure if this server has BBWC; is it required? All I can find in the ACU is that it is a 256M p410i.

Re: Dl380G6 RAID 10 Expand
410i should be able to 8-16 drives. I would upgrade the firmware first. You need to add two drives for RAID 10. Backup before doing it.

Re: Dl380G6 RAID 10 Expand
Can this be done live - or does the server need to be shutdown? Still don't know about the BBWC issue. I may be better off adding 4 more drives and creating another RAID 10 instead of waiting 36 hours to expand the existing RAID 10 with 2 146g disks?

Re: Dl380G6 RAID 10 Expand
For doing any online expansion on the P410i Array Controller, you need a BBWC. Without BBWC installed and battery charged, you will not get an option to ├в Expand├в the array.
You can do the following steps to accomplish this.
1. Insert the hard disk in to the drive bay.
2. Open ACU and then select the array.
3. Click the ├в Expand├в button.
4. Select the disks you want to add to the array and Click ├в Save├в .
5. It will take some time to expand the array.
6. Once the array expansion is finished, you can click the logical drive and Expand it.
7. Now once you go to device manager in Windows (If you are using windows) you will see un-partitioned space in the Disk.
8. You can use the windows ├в Diskpart├в utility to extend your partition.
If you need an additional partition instead of extending the existing partition, you create a new logical drive instead of doing step 6.
If you are not seeing the expand array option in the ACU, you most probably do NOT have a Battery attached to your array cache. You can check it in the ACU by selecting the array controller and click More Information.
