Dual Processor Upgrade

I am piecing together an upgrade to dual pent pro/200 and am looking for info on the needed VRM.. Spare p/n listed for this box is 225529-001 which I am having difficulty locating, but I have located a VRM used in Proliant 5500's with p/n 296203-001.. Components on this VRM are the same as my existing VRM and it looks tempting to try it, but I'd rather not fry the cpu board since parts are getting harder to come by. Does anyone know if this VRM would work satisfactorily in my 2500.?? I worked for a competing computer company for 30 years and know we often issued the same part under various part numbers depending on which box it was to be used in,,, Just wondering if Compaq may do the same.. Thanx..

Re: Dual Processor Upgrade

I am having the same problem. The Compaq Overview shows the Regulator Module as Spare Part 225529-001 and the Processor Power Module, 5-12V IN, 5-bit as Spare Part 299306-001. The Matrix shows Proliant 2500 as 5volt input Spare Part 225529-001 which also works for the Proliant 800 and 850. It shows Spare Part 299306-001 as Variable Input (5 or 12V) for Proliant 1200, 1600, 3000 and 5500. All use the Berg Header connector. The P/N 296203-001 is shown for the Proliant 6000 and is a 12V input only and shows 48 watts . If anyone can give some guidance on this please do, as I am unsure how to proceed.

Re: Dual Processor Upgrade

hey Bill,
I hadn't come across the Matrix, but once you mentioned it, I dug a little deeper.. The Matrix answered my question.. I cannot use the VRM p/n 296203-001 because of it's strictly 12v input.. Looking at the Matrix though, 225529-001 is the listed part for the 2500, but I am thinking the 299306-001 would work just as well... I base this on these facts:
225529 requires 5v input,
299306 will work with either 5v/OR/12v input,
225529 is rated 35 watts,
299306 is rated 40 watts, (it's a slightly heftier regulator, so it's safe),

If you can locate the 2500 Quick Reference Guide, both 225529-001 and 299306-001 are listed in the miscellaneous internal. Of course Compaq doesn't help by using different terms, ie:voltage regulator module (VRM) and Processor Power Module (PPM) for the same item... Oh well... IBM wasn't any better..

Re: Dual Processor Upgrade

299306-001 used with the 333 Mhz Upgrade for PL2500 .

225529-001 standard VRM and should be used with the 200 Mhz processor .

Re: Dual Processor Upgrade

If the part number is 225529-001 then why doesnt it show uo in the parts matrix? The website is really hard to find anything. What is the price and how do you order the part?
