How to view the traps generated by the snmp agents?

I don't have a SIM server installed. I want to see whether the traps are really generated or not. I can see only part of it through the logs section of SMH page. Is there other way around to see the traps without resorting to SIM server? Like some logs or something?

Thanks

On a linux-based OS you can use tcpdump to check if traps are generated on UDP ports 161 or 162. Simply run tcpdump on a terminal, then generate a trap by pulling a hdd, pulling a power supply or just set a very low disk space utilization threshold on the SMH. You should see the packets registered on the tcpdump output.

I'm sure there is a windows equivalent of tcpdump.

Traps are useless if "nobody" is listening. You need an application that listen to the traps (e.g. HPSIM or something else).

Hope this helps!
