Moving RAID5 Volumes between Servers with P400 Controllers

Hello,

We have a fairly sizable database system which needs to be moved from one Server to another.

Both the source and destinations Servers have the same RAID Controllers (P400) but the hardware is disimilar - one is a DL380 G5 and the other is an ML370 G5. In order to prevent issues with the OS we would like to only move the two RAID-5 volumes which host the databases and the transaction logs. The OS volume (a mirrored pair) will not move.

Is the RAID metadata for each volume stored on one of the disks in the set? If so then i'm assuming the above move will work?

Yes the raid metadata is stored on the disks and what you are planing to do will work. As always before doing any major disk work, run full backups.

Thanks for confirming that - I just wanted to double-check.

Backups will definately be made ;)
