Re: Proliant 3000 CPU Upgrade
hello all.
i was able to purchase a proliant 3000 system board that supports a PIII 550mhz processor.
instead of purchasing a proliant 550 cpu upgrade kit, can i purchase any PIII cpu running at 550 and get the vrm and heat sink?
also i noticed that some of the PIII 550 have built in fans. will those pose a problem? the cpu's in the proliant kits don't have fans???
thanks everyone!

Re: Proliant 3000 CPU Upgrade
reguarding the 5500 question, here is the answer (because i said so and i did it myself). if you remove the 5500 processor card, the 3000 PII card WILL slip in and run. now let me give you the bad news. it is a gen 1 3000 limited to 333 and 512 MB memory. any board that fits the 5500 will fit the 3000, and vice versa. as long as you get a matching pair of processors, and get compliant heatsinks with or without fans it will work, but make sure you have the proper vrm to function the processor. any questions ask me i've learned a lot fron these systems, i have 10 servers in my house, from 1600's to 3000's and a few non compaq multiprocessor, intel and abit to be exact.
