RAID recommendation
Hello,
I will be deploying a replacement server for a Java webapp server w/SQL.
Current system:
ProLiant DL580G2, quad 1.4 Xeons, 8GB mem, (4) 72GB RAID5
New system:
ProLiant DL385G2, dual dual-core Opterons, 8GB mem, (6) 146GB SAS
Looking for advice on RAID setup.
RAID5, RAID1+0, mix of RAIDs ?
redundancy and performance are equally important ... well, maybe lean a bit more to perf.
Thanks!

Re: RAID recommendation
Hi,
... so, I suggest to you to choose RAID 5.
if, also, you choose to utilize the Hot Spare drive you'll have 4x146 GB of total capacity.
Bye.
TJK.

Re: RAID recommendation
Hi...
I will suggest you go for Raid5 with one hot spare HDD. Its a good environment for performance as well as for redudancy.
Thnx

Re: RAID recommendation
Brian:
To maximixe the available space and redundancy, I would suggest you create 1 Array with 5 disks and add the 6th drive as a spare.
You will still be able to create multiple Logical Drives with different RAID settings. I suggest 12 to 30GB RAID1 for your OS (if you need that much), some space for logs RAID1 and some space for data RAID5.
