adding disk enclosure

I currently have a Proliant 1600. I would like to convert it to a 1600R, so that I may mount it in a rack. Is it possible to acquire the necessary parts? I would also like to purchase a 4354R or 4314R disk enclosure for it. What would be a compatible array controller card? If I wanted to put all the above equipment in a rack, what would be the best series to choose from?

Thanks,
Tracy

Re: adding disk enclosure

This is quite the laundry list, but here we go.... (149068-B21) Compaq Tower-to-Rack Conversion Kit. I've purchased from Chestnut Micro (www.chestnutmicro.com) before. Check out the Quickspecs document http://www.compaq.com/products/quickspecs/10624_an/10624_na.html for compatible array controller, remember that if you purchase Wide Ultra3 (180Mpbs) drives you should also purchase a controller that supports Wide Ultra3 to get full benefit of speed. Also, select carefully based on amount of array cache you need and number of channels. If this if for data base I wouldn't purchase one with less than 32MB inboard. The 5302/64 is our standard for data base, but the 431 is a good entry level controller. Lastly for your rack, I'd recommend the new 9000 series http://www.compaq.com/products/servers/proliantstorage/racks/9000series/index.html. The configuration you described would require 5U for the server and 3U for the disk enclosure. Good luck.

Re: adding disk enclosure

One thing to be aware of for future expandability. The 431 controller is a single channel. Everything else correct.
I hope this helps.
We are here for a good time, not a long time!
