do i need to upgrade?

In order to install a 300GB HDD as a separate logical drive, in a ML370 running Win2000, what kind of upgrades are necessary prior to installation?

Re: do i need to upgrade?

Hi BlackJack,

There is no update that is required, Install the harddisk and you should be ready to use.

But always ensure that the Server BIOS is uptodate also the PSP and windows SP.

Re: do i need to upgrade?

Hi BlackJack,

Could you put some more info on the issue?

1. What is the generation of the server?
2. What is the existing array and what is the array controller?

If you are using a Smart array controller then it is a very simple task of going into the ACU and creating a logical drive seperately for this drive and formatting the drive from the OS.

Hope this answers!!!!!

Re: do i need to upgrade?

it's a G2 server. the array is RAID 5 and our controller is Compaq Smart Array 5i.. being that our server is an older version, that's why i thought i would need some kinda of upgrade of drivers or firmware. so i can just go ahead with the install?

Re: do i need to upgrade?

Optional HDDs are:

18.2-GB Wide Ultra3 SCSI 10,000 rpm Drive (1") 142673-B22
36.4GB Wide Ultra3 SCSI 10.000 rpm Drive (1") 176496-B22
72.8-GB Wide Ultra3 SCSI 10,000 rpm Drive (1") 232432-B22
18.2GB Pluggable Wide Ultra3 SCSI 15,000 rpm Drive (1") 188122-B22
36.4-GB Wide Ultra3 SCSI 15,000 rpm Drive (1") 232916-B22

But you can try, it is always recommended that you have teh latest firmware..

The worse that could happen is that the drive will not be recognized.
