Hi
we have upgraded the memory from 4 GB to 8 GB in our Proliant DL580 G2 and ran RBSU menu and configured the DIMMS as AECC. Now the system physically shows 8GB memory when we power on the server, but in system properties of windows 2003 enterprise edition in "General" tab its shows only 4 GB.
Do we have to do some configuration in windows 2003 enterprise edition?

Hi,
This is due to OS firt is this
Second have you gone through the following doccument
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;283037&Product=winsvr2003
Which says about memory setting on server.
Where as it say mostly about windows 2000.
Regrads,
Prashant S.

Re: memory upgrade of DL580 G2
Hi there,
this I believe is due to the restriction of the IA32 architecture. Do this and see if this fixes your problem:
Edit your boot.ini to append to the line which starts with
default...../WINNT
and add /PAE switch at the end
so your line should then look like:
default....../WINNT /PAE
PAE specifies usage of physical address extension and allows Windows to see memory >4GB. Mind you this is just a detection and reporting problem (feature/restriction...call it whatever you will but Microsoft says it is by design) your server/host is happily using all the memory tho.
This should fix your problem.
Let us know how you went.
Don't forget to assign the points ;-)
Ciao!
