Community String setting

All,

What is the rule on how to set the community strings for the CMS and managed nodes? Like which one would be Read/Write, Read/Create, and or read only?

Re: Community String setting

You can use

Public "Read Only"

Private "Read/Create" I think "Read/Write" works too.

Remmber community names are CASE SENSITIVE!

Re: Community String setting

Let's assume that I have public as read and private as write on the CMS, do I have to add both community strings to the SNMP security settings for the managed systems? I am not getting traps from my systems, the tasks are well defined. So I think the problem is with my community specifications.

Re: Community String setting

From your SNMP properties -

Your TRAPS tab should have both COMMUNITIES listed (using the drop-down box).

In your TRAP DESTINATIONS yuo should have your SIM server.

Under your SEcURITY tab, you should have both communities listed, and I have been using ACCEPT SNMP packets from ANY host. Else you should have your SIM server listed.

I suspect your security is the issue, as the default of SNMP is to use LOCALHOST.

Restart SNMP.

Good luck.

You can go to Control Panel - HP MANAGEMNT AGENTS - SNMP Settings tab - click on the button SEND SNMP TRAP.
