Inventory of all hardware and serial numbers

Hi,

I would like to get an inventory report of all my serial numbers for my SAN hardware including my EVA, Servers (Netware 6.5 and Windows), and my EBS backup library. Will Insight Diagnostic provide me a report with this information?

HP SIM 5.0 SP5 has the capability tio create reports that will contain all these infos. To get infos from the eva, you need to set up the SMI-S providers for the eva : see details here : http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/smisproviders.html

For the servers : HP SIM can generate similar reports.

From the web interface of your CMS : go select your devices (eva or servers) then go in report / new report. select serial numbers and run the report.

Do you have to buy Storage Essentials inorder to setup and use SMI-S?

No, SMI-S is included with CV EVA.
It should be on the same distribution as your CV EVA.
But it depends on what you mean by all of the serial numbers in your SAN environment. e.g fabric switches need their own SMI-S, and setting up that may be more hassle than it's worth.
