SIM6 installation problems

FYI, I tried the test OU workaround provided by Joel on 9/2. Unfortunately it didn't work...at least not at first. What finally did the trick for me was to uninstall IE8 and then reinstall it via Microsoft Update. When I built the server specifically for this application I remembered seeing odd error messages during my initial round of updates. We typically build a server, install all updates from MS Update, and then join the machine to the domain.

In any case, after uninstalling and reinstalling IE8 and putting the machine into a test OU I was able to install SIM 6.1B. Hopefully this helps someone else (and HP support).

I had the same problem in this situation.
I logged as administrator on the machine and added another user to install the application.
Then I installed SIM6.2 using new user's credentials and got that error.
Then I rebooted the server and I logged with new user credential's and installed SIM with no problems

Hello, we have had a problem to launch a current version of SIM installation package "SIM_6.3_Z7550_00079.exe" on newly installed and patched out W2K3 x86 / SP2 domain member server. It immediatelly ends with that "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file..." error as well. So we have extracted that EXE (selfextracted ZIP) and then directly launch .. \SIM6300-win\hpsim\win\Setup.exe without a problem.. The strange thing is that then the selfextraction EXE file can be launched as well. As we have already installed that SIM app so that's useless ;-)
