System Unreachable event not appearing on systems offline

We're noticing that many of our systems with HP Agents, if they ever become unreachable to HP SIM, are not showing that event. Some are, and some aren't. Some which have been offline for a few weeks are still appearing as an active entry in SIM even though they don't exist on the network. Their event log will show a last-posted event from it's last activity but nothing more in the event log. Can you give me advice on how to best troubleshoot this? We depend on the "System Unreachable" event to notify our administrators on the systems.
