Zoning issue
Hi!
I am trying to connect a HP blade server (C7000) enclosure to a small SAN comprised of an EVA4000, 3 rx4640 servers (running HP-UX) and a tape library. This small SAN do not have zoning configured on the 2x16 FC switchs.
The physicall connetivity between the two exist and we are using brocade switch, and both the SAN and the enclosure are located in two different data centers. The idea is to have this blade being backed up on the tape library.

Re: Zoning issue
So you have the EVA, 2x stand alone switches, the servers, the blade servers (what model?) and blade switches, but no zoning.
It is recommended to put disks and tapes in different zones, but without zoning you don't have a zoning issue.
Please run an "ioscan -fn" on the blade servers and check for UNKNOWN devices.
This is probably the tape and the changer, since you don't have a driver loaded.
In this case you need to add the stape and autoch/schgr driver.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Zoning issue
I can only see a netapp lun which is configured in a wrong mode and not redundant ...
You did not tell about this device.
More details needed.
What switches are used between the devices? How is cabling between them? Do a "zoneshow" to check if any zoning is configured or not.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Zoning issue
this two IT rooms are separated by 100 m, and on the EVA side I did connect to one of the HP 4/16 SAN switchs and run the following:
telnet 10.1.20.132 Trying... Connected to 10.1.20.132. Escape character is '^]'. Local flow control on Telnet TERMINAL-SPEED option ON Fabric OS (mcelsw1) mcelsw1 login: admin Password: mcelsw1:admin> zoneshow Defined configuration: no configuration defined Effective configuration: no configuration in effect mcelsw1:admin>
So it seems that there is no zone configured on the EVA side, but I wast told that on the other room, there is zoning configured on the brocade switch

Re: Zoning issue
Are there brocade switches in the C7000 too or something else (pass-tru for example)?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Zoning issue
there are FC mezanine and pass-thru at the back of C7000, there is also connectivity from the back of C7000, to the brocade switch at the top.
I was told by the Admin of the brocade switch of IT room 2 (diagram) that there is zoning configured on the brocade switch.
please see the pic

Re: Zoning issue
OK, if there is a zoning on the switch connected directly to the C7000, this may already block the blades from communication.
I assume the single brocade next to the blade is connected to 1 brocade next to the EVA, right?
Do these 2 switches have different domain IDs?
Is the connection between these 2 switches working?
Get the WWN of the blades
#fcmsutil /dev/fclp0
for example and compare to a "switchshow" and "zoneshow" command on the single switch.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
