media Vault 2010

Since the media vault seems to be a real let down, does anybody know if it can be reformatted to act as a network drive. The reason is I'd like to upgrade to the NTI version 5 backup but don't think it will recognize "media vault" as a drive. It looks for lettered drives ie: drive (x)The boot disk from HP is useless and the version 5 allows for creating your own.
