Thanks, no XP driver for this tape drive in that collection though, the SCSI driver doesn't work with it - any other suggestions greatly appreciated!

What back up software are you using??

Please always use the proper procedure dictated by the back up software. If you use ARCserve, DPX or tapeware you disable the drive in device manager and do not use drivers.

If you use Back up Exec download and install their driver.

Well, option 1 is to use XP backup and option 2 is to use StorageWorks. For which XP has no real instruction and for StorageWorks I followed as instructed.....This issue is starting to look a little unsolvable so I may just purchase something more modern for the job.

You should have no issues configuring this...

When you say StorageWorks are you referring to Library and Tape Tools? Becasue LTT is not a back up software it is a diagnostic software.

You can use Win XP Native backup...
1. try uninstalling the SDLT drive from device manager
2. make sure the drive is powered on
3. then rescan for devices or reboot (whatever windows prompts)
4. allow windows plug and play to find the new device and agree for drivers to be installed.

this should get you some kind of Microsoft driver to use with NTbackup.

Re: Compaq SDLT 110/220 GB XP professional driver

Hi, thanks for all your suggestions. The XP native backup and the route you described was what I originally tried and it didn't detect the tape drive in the process. I managed to get Windows to load some sort of DLT driver in the process but that was unsucessful too. I have heard from HP directly that this device is not supported with XP so I have bought an iomega rev drive instead. Thanks again.
