DLT 35/70 Constant Cleaning Light on

All,

I have the aboe internal unit. The leader came off originally but that has now been fixed. The device detects in the BIOS and OS no problem. When I put a tape in it tells me there's no 'usable' Media in the drive and the cleaning light comes on. If I use the cleaning tape, the light goes off. I then eject the cleaning tape, put a NEW tape in and the exactly the same happens - cleaning light comes back on? Any ideas out there?

the cause may be due to a bad tape or a bad head.
I would suggest to insert a new tape and run L&TT, with read/write test, see the results
Also the cleaning cartridge of a DLT drive is valid for 20 passes, after that you cannot use it anaymore.
some kind of contamination could also arise inside of the DLT, this is one of the biggest problems when you have to manage to reattach the leader
