Error with DAT72

Hoping you guys can help me.
I have a 2000 server with a DAT72 drive running Data Protector express, Whenever I run the DPE service my server seems to slow down to a grinding halt. The system log also seems to get filled with the following error

1) Event ID 9
Source: Raidsrc
Description: The device, \Device\Scsi\raidsrc1, did not respond within the timeout period.
