MSL6000/LTO3 Ultrium drive Unable to write to Tapes.

I have a strange problem. We have an MSL6030 Library with an Ultrium 960 drive ,with an E1200 NSR The firmware on the drive is G25W. I downloaded the latest firmware bundle and tried to update the firmware to G54W/MSL. The update fails. I then tried running tests on L&TT , it fails on read/write test. I have however restored 800gb of Data from three other tapes. I have replaced the Drive, all the SCSI and Fibre cables, reset NSR to factory defaults and reconfigured.

Still we cannot write to Drive.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks In advance

Re: MSL6000/LTO3 Ultrium drive Unable to write to Tapes.

- where you having problems to write to the tape before the firmware update attenpt?
- have you tried to write to different tapes?
- what are the actual firmwares for the library controller and tape drive?
- generate an support ticket from LTT and upload it here.
If the flop doesn't fit... go allin!!!

Re: MSL6000/LTO3 Ultrium drive Unable to write to Tapes.

Hi Thanks for the quick response.

1. we were unable to write to tapes before upgrade attempt.

The firmware on the drive is currently G25w.

We have tried many different tapes.

Please find attached support ticket

Re: MSL6000/LTO3 Ultrium drive Unable to write to Tapes.

it could be a problem either with:

a) the tape drive or
b) the cabling configuration.

It would be good if you generate a support ticket of the tape drive without the library and post it here again.

Or if you want to give a try to a cabling issue then make sure the connection is as follows:

NSR > Library controller > tape drive > terminator

Re: MSL6000/LTO3 Ultrium drive Unable to write to Tapes.

Hi Thanks for all the help, I discovered that there was a cabling problem INSIDE the Library , reseated the cables and that sorted out the problem. Strange. Many Thanks for the help.
