Lefthand SAN-Can I mix firmware version 8.1 with 8.5 enclosure?

I have an existing Lefthand SAN at firmware version 8.1. I would like to join to this enclosure a new enclosure that is already at firmware version 8.5. Is this OK? We won't have time to update the existing SAN to 8.5 until later. Thanks for the help.

Hi Steve,

The simple answer is Yes you can add an 8.5 unit to an existing 8.1 cluster. The new functionality available with 8.5 will not be available until the existing 8.1 modules have been upgraded to 8.5.

The additional capacity will be available as soon as the new module has been added but there will be a period of time where the volumes will be restriping the data.

Yes, but I would update the rest of the SAN to the 8.5 version when possible.
