Can E2910al modules be used as switch ports?

I have a HP E2910-48G al Switch (J9147A) that I would like to add two the HP 2-port 10GbE SFP+ al Modules (J9008A) to so that I can get 10gb connectivity to my san. The question I have is can I use the 4 SFP+ (with sfp+ modules of course) ports as switch ports or switch uplinks only? Put differently, can I use the ports on the modules as device ports instead of switch to switch uplink ports?

Yes, you can use these ports as regular switch ports for end devices (with fiber optics or direct attach cables).

Think that only special CX4 interconnect kit has limitation in cable lenght.

The 2910al does not have enough IO capability to be a long term solution for SAN connectivity. You could have buffer problems when it is hit hard. You would be better off with the 3500yl.

Here is a good read about the necessary switching requirements of SANs, by someone that has deployed 30-40 of them and fixed several failed installations.
