I have a HP E2910-48G al Switch (J9147A) that I would like to add two the HP 2-port 10GbE SFP+ al Modules (J9008A) to so that I can get 10gb connectivity to my san. The question I have is can I use the 4 SFP+ (with sfp+ modules of course) ports as switch ports or switch uplinks only? Put differently, can I use the ports on the modules as device ports instead of switch to switch uplink ports?

Re: Can E2910al modules be used as switch ports?
The 2910al does not have enough IO capability to be a long term solution for SAN connectivity. You could have buffer problems when it is hit hard. You would be better off with the 3500yl.
Here is a good read about the necessary switching requirements of SANs, by someone that has deployed 30-40 of them and fixed several failed installations.
