CDP is receive only by default on Procurve.
Command to enable is "cdp run" and then
"show cdp nei" will show neighbours. Note
cdp may no longer be supported at all on
some Procurve devices.

LLDP is enabled by default.

show lldp info remote

will show neighbours, in an all LLDP
enabled net. Recent versions of IOS
on Cisco support LLDP, at least on
some models.

Re: Using Cisco Discovery Protocol - CDP to fetch network details.

Hello SGA,

CDP / LLDP are protocols by which two adjacent devices exchange information about each other periodically.

The information exchanged would be things like "system capabilities", "chassis type" "chassis ID" and so on.

Have a look @ good write-up which also compares CDP with LLDP

There is a Network Management tool from ProCurve which will fetch the data from CDP/LLDP . Check out the product here:

Hope it helps!
