Simpler Navigation coming for Servers and Operating Systems
Coming soon: a much simpler Servers and Operating Systems section of the Community. We will combine many of the older boards, and you won't have to click through so many levels to get at the information you need. If you are looking for an older board and do not find it, check the consolidated boards, as the posts are still there.

Looking for a way to monitor kernel parameter usage

This is how I'd monitor file system handles:

[root@moon linux]# sysctl -a | grep file
fs.file-nr = 1472       0       6815744
fs.file-max = 6815744

I can see there are 1472 file handles in use.

But what about other parameters?

[root@lxpsapmoon linux]# sysctl -a | grep shm
kernel.shmmax = 4294967295
kernel.shmall = 4294967296
kernel.shmmni = 4096
kernel.shm_rmid_forced = 0
vm.hugetlb_shm_group = 0

I am lookint for a scripted (hopefully), reliable solution for monitoring important usage of important kernel parameters.

I am looking for functionality similar to the kcusage/kcalarm suite of tools on HP-UX
