NIS+ Query
Hi Masters,
I have one NIS+ Query. I need to add one user with the group ID 2218, but when i tried it, it prompts an error that "Group does not exist". i saw NIS+ Map tables and does not found the group there. But it was there a week ago, when i added a user that time. May be someone deleted it mistakenly.
Now, my questin is I have a backup of /var/nis, but it is the normal backup using veritas Netbackup utility. If i restore my /var/nis from backup server to my NIS+ server,
1. will my NIS+ work after restoration?
2. is there any risk involved in restoring it on /var/nis, as this is a very critical nis server?
3. i dont have nisbackup, will normal backup which has been taken work for it?
as NIS+ is bit different from NIS, so not sure about these.
thanks
Vishu

Re: NIS+ Query
Shalom,
Your questions.
1. Maybe. It depends if a mistaken deletion is the cause of the problem.
2. There is risk. Take a backup, even just to a tar file before doing any restoration.
3. NIS and NIS+ store critical data in files that can be backed up using tar or the backup utility of your choice.

Re: NIS+ Query
Steven, thanks for the reply.
But my query is that i want to restore my group.org_dir file to /var/nis/group.org_dir, will it work by normal restoration or by simply overwriting the file.
Thanks
