Not able to login through Console

Hello Admins,

I am able to log in as root through natted ip from the remote location but when i am trying to log in through the console IP of same server from another server in same VLAN its not allowing me to log in.What may be the possible reasons ? please suggest

Possible causes.

1) Cable unplugged
2) Firewall configuration blocks traffic.
3) Incompatble network configuration with network on the console.
4) telnet blocked by network administration.

check for /etc/securetty and it's contents if it exists

Error message "Login incorrect"

But the login credentials are correct and i am able to login as root through natted ip using the same credentials.

OK In this case,

can you try logging using normal user-id than su - ?

if you passwrd contain some special character then you will have to use escapa character "\" before that special char like "*".
