Port concept in hpunix
Could you pls explain the port concept in hpunix?
Iam not able to get enough info about port concept.
what are the various ports ? max how many ports are there in unix?

I got my port number for a particular service
more /etc/services | grep -i ftp
the port was 20 for ftp.

Take a look on the below URL:

Ports are ports, and are not limited to hpunix but are there whenever you talk about Networking.
Hit for "Socket Programming" in google and top threads will have some more info for you which may interest you.
