Solution
Shalom,
If there are two SAN connections and disk is presented to both ports, replacing a HBA can be done without loss of service or device path change.
11.31 has built in native multi pathing. Now that means you have two cards in your system, and make sure the disk presentation is always to multiple I/O cards.
The change process is merely to change the WWN, World Wide Name the disk is presented to. Putting a new card in the same slot as the old card should not result in a new device path.
HP-UX 11.11 did encode the WWN in the device path and that made it less flexible in these situations.

Re: Question about hpux with san attached
If the zoning on your switches is WWN based, you need to adjust it.
Disk arrays usually present LUNs to WWNs, you need to adjust here too.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Question about hpux with san attached
SEP,
>> HP-UX 11.11 did encode the WWN in the device path and that made it less flexible in these situations.
Strictly speaking it was the FCID of the target port of the storage system that was encoded in the hardware path on 11.11 (and 11.23). It was always possible to change the WWN of the storage without creating a new hardware path, but changing the FCID (typically by assigning a new domain ID to a FC switch or by moving storage to a different switch or different port on the same switch) would result in a new hardware path...
