Re: break mirrior disk in hpunix 11.31
You create a clone, patch the clone and then boot the clone.
If something goes wrong, you just boot the original disk again.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: break mirrior disk in hpunix 11.31
Well.... Minimizing downtime is pretty much the keyword here .... Isn't it?... Patches fix bugs but at times end up creating "side effects" although the rating does give you a picture about what is going to happen... As mentioned DRD is the best way as you are concerned about the "root disk". It's a simple command called as drd....
So you can go ahead depending on how your O.S behaves to the patch as SEP has rightly mentioned. You can install the patch on the clone and it has no side effects on the boot disk unless you go ahead "syncing" it.
However, there is a period of release of patches that DRD doesn't support... Kind of a short span of time but these pathces around 2004 can create "problems".

Re: break mirrior disk in hpunix 11.31
DRD is not_the_same as Ignite. Ignite-UX is a utility that is used for pulling and pushing of complete installations and what is termed as the "famous ignite backup" on HPUX which are done with two utilities, one of which is onto a tape drive and the other based on a client server model. Here you might talk in terms of an Ignite Server and an Ignite Client.
Ignite is an optional product shipped with the DVD.
DRD is a free software that is used typically for "minimizing downtime" . When you talk about "disaster recovery" on HPUX, ignite is significant. DRD is a "volume group" named as /dev/drd00 which is normally on the local server unless you are planning to "rehost".
Don't forget to assign points.
