lock my computer

How can I lock my computer so that, anybody could see the scree but it needs a password to operate the keyboard and/or mouse?

Shalom,

All users accept root have this feature by default.

So don't leave the system logged on as root.

If you look at the menus there is an option to lock the desk top (X windows GUI).

It doesn't work on all versions of Linux.

root can also lock its session in KDE, while in GNOME this facility is not available for root.
