Re: replace a bad disk with new disk on the same vg .
Is that disk gone bad is OS disk ar its been allocated from storage.
if OS disk you need to mirror it,but if its allocated from storage just unplug the failed disk and plug the new disk and move to the same diskgroup.
regards

Re: replace a bad disk with new disk on the same vg .
Is the bad disk mirrored?
Is it on a hardware RAID controller?
Each of these will require a different set of steps.
Google for "HP-UX when good disks go bad": you'll find a HP document that has very detailed lists of steps for most common situations.
(I'd give a direct link, but the document seems to have moved... no matter, Google does find it.)

Re: replace a bad disk with new disk on the same vg .
Is the disk mirrored or not? Is it a root disk? Do you have the data backup?
Consider these kind of things before replacing it.
Also refer,attached file.

SolutionSince the disk is mirrored,
You can connect the hard disk and do,
#ioscan -fnC disk
#vgcfgrestore -n vgXX /dev/rdsk/cXtXdx
#vgchange -a y /dev/vgXX
#vgsync /dev/vgXX
For non mirrored disks, you have to restore the data from the backup.
