DAT 40 on XP notebook

My boss has been running a SureStore 12/24 DAT drive off an Adaptec PCMCIA card in his notebook. A 20/40 DAT (C5687B) has become available, & he'd like to use it. I bought a cable adapter (50 pin LD to 68 pin HD), but the system doesn't recognize the bigger drive. Is it possible to run the DAT 40 from that old card (1480A)? OS is WinXPP sp2 Thanks,
