MSL4048 seen as only tape Drive in W2008
After installing an HP StorageWorks MSL4048 tape library on a windows 2008, all connected to a SAN, it is discovered in Device Manager as only a tape drive. There is no Medium Changer seen in Device Manager.
How to correct this situation ? Please Advice !

Re: MSL4048 seen as only tape Drive in W2008
Is your MSL SCSI connected or San connected.
If SCSI check cabling.
One cable comming from the server must go to tapdrive 1 and then from drive to the scsi controller card on the MSL with a terminator at the end.
Also check that the drivers for the SCSI card are W2008 suported.

Re: MSL4048 seen as only tape Drive in W2008
connect to your library on his ip address and check that the first drive is also having robotics control, if only one drive is installed it should be done automatically.
If a second drive is onstalled you cannot share robtics controlle unless you repartition the drive.

Re: MSL4048 seen as only tape Drive in W2008
The user guide says it tries to get an address from DHCP when it boots.
So if you havent changed anything and arent close to the MSL, maybe you can check on the DHCP/DNS server what IP it has?

Re: MSL4048 seen as only tape Drive in W2008
Ensure you are using a supported FC HBA as per the EBS compatibility matrix.
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ebs/pdf/EBSMatrix-0610.pdf
Check if the library medium chager can be seen from another host on SAN. (another W2008 or 2003 host).
From the front panel of the library check to see if the the library is operating as random mode.(Library mode ( Home screen >> Configuration >> Library configuration >> Random mode). This option is used when a full fledged backup application controls the robotics unit of a library.
