Performance Improvement Notes
OK, Here is what I have done and my performance has gone from about 5mbps to close to 10mbps for the first half an hour of backups and then it slowly dipps back down to around 6mbps (still need to tweak something, but I think its a move in the right direction. Let me know what you guys think)
1. Downloaded the latest halfinch drivers from veritas and installed them on the machine.
2. Installed adaptecs 39160 Service Pack 3, not 4.
3. Disabled OTM on the veritas client that I am backing up (this is in the host properties to backup open files - Online Transaction Manager)
4. Set the Communications buffer size to 64 (default is 32) on the client that I am backing up.

Re: Performance Improvement Notes
Sounds like your backing up over an IP network. The biggest problem you will face here, is that you are completing against all other bits of traffic. As well as that (and depending on your tape drive, you need a continuous stream of data to the drive to get the best performance. The later type drives, do not respond well to not having data being streamed continuously.
