help hp Colorado does not recognize tape drive
hp Colorado 5gb external drive connected via parallel port to IBM thinkpad under Win98. All was well until I reformatted my hard drive and tried to reinstall the Colorado software. The installation seems to go well until the point where you restart the computer and Colorado is supposed to test the tape drive. At this point, I get and error stating that the Tape drive can not be seen.
I have carefully observed the proper sequence of instally the software first, the connecting the drive, etc.
Thanks in advance for any assistance

Re: help hp Colorado does not recognize tape drive
Try the following sequence:
-Turn off your pc
-connect the drive then power on
-turn on your pc
-install now your backup software
If doesn├в t work out, try to install it from another pc.
If still doesn't work out try the ff.
(this is only for isolation)
-if you have an OEM windows 98/ME installer, locate MSbackup from Add-on folder.
-install this but be sure you uninstall first any backup software from your pc.
-installing this with your tape is "on" status.
-much better to restart you pc after you installed MSBackup*
-under device manager for you to know if your drive is detected now, you will find here a TAPE icon.(MSBackup *may* not able run using tape drive, this is just for isolation purposes in order to verify the connectivity status of your drive and your os)
-then install your backup software now
Hope this will hel

Re: help hp Colorado does not recognize tape drive
Your second suggestion of installing from another pc, I do not understand how I would install software on my laptop from another PC, did you mean to say install the Colorado software on another pc just to isolate the software to see if it works, in case there is an underlying problem with my laptop??
Your third suggestion, I can not do as I do not have an OEM windos installer.
Any other suggestion??
Thanks again,

Re: help hp Colorado does not recognize tape drive
Can you give me the ff. specs?
#Win98 ver. (2nd ed...)
#Backup Software and version
#Tape drive model/specs.
#PC/laptop model/specs
Again for isolation try the ff.
-Check the cable, much better if you replace a new one.
-uninstall your current backup software, instead try to use other backup software, for instance try to use Tapeware 6.x or 7.0 (download a live trial from www.tapeware.com)
-make sure your extrenal IDE/parallel port is on reserved (not in use) condition.

Re: help hp Colorado does not recognize tape drive
-Enhanced Parallel Port(EPP): EPP+ECP or EPP
-Direct Memory Access (DMA): 3
-Interrupt Request(IRQ): 7
Hope it helps.
