HPE named a Leader again by Gartner in Magic Quadrant for Operations Support Systems

I am thrilled to share that Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is named a leader again in the Magic Quadrant(1) for Operations Support Systems(2) (OSS), released in January 2019. HPE is named a Leader for the second year in a row.

At HPE, we think being named a leader again in the OSS Magic Quadrant, a new step in our success story, is the result of our relentless focus on automating operations and helping communications service providers (CSPs) monetize their services. โ€œI am delighted by Gartnerโ€™s recognition of HPE as a leader in the OSS market including our ability to execute and our completeness of vision. We feel it is a confirmation of the relevance of our vision.โ€ said Domenico Convertino, head of OSS/BSS at HPE. โ€œWe have to automate an increasingly dynamic world. CSPs have a unique opportunity to embark on a successful journey to become digital service providers. However, they must become more agile, bringing new digital services to the market in a matter of weeks, not months. They must also be able to operate those new networks and services in a โ€œcloud-ifiedโ€ and hybrid environment, with unprecedented levels of dynamicity, complexity and volume. In order to succeed, CSPs must focus on a key objective: put in place an aggressive automation roadmap, ultimately aiming at Zero Touch operations. At HPE, our focus is to help CSPs get there, leveraging recent innovations such as intent-based service orchestration, and ML-based intelligent service assuranceโ€.

As Gartner states in the report, โ€œLeaders covered in this Magic Quadrant have significantly higher mind share among CSPs, as compared with other vendors. Leaders are vendors that would normally be included on shortlists for OSS solutions for large and midsize CSPs worldwide:

ยท       They perform profitably, grow their revenue, and have a presence in all major markets.

ยท       Their core OSS offering functionality is comprehensive and above average, and their technology and scalability are leading-edge.

ยท       They also engage in innovative projects and activities, carefully listening to their customer base and executing projects to their customersโ€™ satisfaction.

ยท       They are engaged in understanding the underlying and emerging patterns/trends in revenue and customer management activities, and they direct their R&D resources and investments accordingly.โ€

We believe HPEโ€™s positioning as a Leader is the recognition by Gartner of the relevance of our OSS strategy and innovation, which has helped us dramatically increase our traction in the OSS market over 2017-2018 and showed evidence of HPEโ€™s ability to support CSPs' digital transformation.

To support this digital transformation, HPE offers a broad portfolio of OSS solutions. First, HPEโ€™s service orchestration offering, made of HPE Service Director for E2E service orchestration and HPE NFV Director for NFV MANO. HPE Service Director relies on the concept of intent-based service modelling, which is a strong differentiator for HPE in the OSS market. HPE considers this approach as the best to minimize the OSS system integration cost, the OSS TCO and to dramatically improve time to market for CSPsโ€™ services.

In addition, the HPE OSS Assurance portfolio, which relies mostly on the ML-based HPE Intelligent Assurance solution and the HPE vTeMIP suite, provides a unique cloud-ified OSS solution for automation. In a nutshell, HPE Intelligent Assurance is an AI, Machine-Learning (ML) based platform that provides a powerful way to transform vast amounts of network data into proactive resolution actions that pave the way towards Zero-Touch operations and self-driven networks. HPE vTeMIP is a cloud-ified OSS Assurance solution that helps CSPs consolidate operational silos in one single pane of glass and automate key tasks. HPE vTeMIP leverages a micro service architecture and a single-pane-of-glass management console, enabling CSPs to reach higher SLA compliance, better customer experience and support the introduction of Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), Software-Defined Networks (SDN), 5G and digital services.

Last but not least, we believe that our DevOps based services facilitate CSPs' transition to new operating models, agile processes and DevOps, which are key to the transformation required for digital and 5G services.

(2) As defined by Gartner, the market for OSS comprises Communications Service Providers (CSPs) looking to source commercial off-the-shelf software packages and support services to address back-office processes. These processes are necessary for the creation, delivery, fulfillment and assurance of services, regardless of product/service, delivery network technology and channel, and customer type.
