The automatic part is what I mean. The tags on this forum are not very useful for analysis or filtering (to my knowledge).
If we could find a way to better leverage the currently existing feature we might be able to customize the consumer forum to better fit our needs. Everyone posts to one place, only people interested in "laserjet" or "enterprise" tags get notifications.
Ofcourse, something would have to tag threads for us in the first place to make any kind of filtering possible or useful. Right now its up to the users to manually tag everything with metadata.

Re: Printing, Personal Computing and Mobile Boards migrating to HP Support Forums
More feedback.
After a few days of playing around on the consumer forum I can honestly say there are way too many posts for me to manage right now. Just getting caught up on the new unanswered posts from the day before requires considerable chunks of time that are not feasible for me to maintain, and they continue to pour in. Let alone try to read anything that already has a post that I might be interested in or could provide feedback on.
My current technique has been to monitor the unanswered threads for the entire Printers & All in Ones area, as I used to do for the Multifunction & All In One area on the EB. The only way I could stay sane would be to find a smaller sub to monitor that fits my interests. Unfortunetly all of the subs in the consumer boards are a bit too generic for my tastes right now. There isnt one that feels like a good fit for me yet.
Still looking for a better way to filter out the stuff I cannot manage or am not interested in.

Yes - because topics of interest (in my case LaserJet s/w, PCL) are spread over several of the boards.

But there probably isn't a suitable subset - and as there are many more posts on the consumer forums (now even more with the EB merger), there are so many more than on the 'see all' of the old EB area.
It's less of a problem for me (as I'm retired, and on the days I log in, I've often got time to spare), but it's still sometimes frustrating having to wade through loads of posts about inkjets (even if I just choose the "Printing Issues & Trobleshooting" board, which is (supposedly) where the EB "LaserJets" board migrated to), when I'm looking for LaserJet / PCL issues.

Re: Printing, Personal Computing and Mobile Boards migrating to HP Support Forums
The Product Name relevant to a question appears on most (although not all) new threads (because the question author is prompted to include this when raising a question).
How about making it easier for ex-EB users to filter out topics which they will (or won't) have an interest in, by including this product name in the topic summary?
For example, instead of seeing an entry like this in a topic list:
we'd see something like:
Then I (for one) would know that (in this case) the topic is probably not of interest to me.
edit: whereas if the product name included LaserJet, or one of the new OfficeJet Pro models (which support the 'traditional' Page Description Languages (PCL5, PCL XL, PostScript) supported by most commercial LaserJet printers), I possibly would be interested.

Re: Printing, Personal Computing and Mobile Boards migrating to HP Support Forums
Yup, our best bet is to get HP to accurately tag everything with relevant meta data. If so then it wont matter where people start thier new threads. We could also setup tag filters and monitor the threads we care about like we currently do.
Fore example the "laserjet" tag would be:
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/tag/Laserjet/tg-p/board-id/Install
This could be super easy for me to bookmark and monitor to maintain my current volunteer interests in the new community. At a glance it appears to monitor all subs and threads. Imagine doing this for "Enterprise", "Multifunction", "PCL", etc. But the last tagged thread with the Laserjet metadata was from 3 months ago : / so it wont cut it right now.
Granted Lithium may not have a way to do this out of the box. But a forum bot could sweep through periodically, scan each post for content and then tag the relevant keywords based on a best guess basis. Forum bots are common over in reddit, I use them on other websites for various tasks although they are primarily for reading and not posting. Lots of potential here, but botting is generally frowned upon by corporate owned forums as a breech of contract. If a user were to do it they would need to dedicate a machine and account to the task as well.

Actually a better link to follow would be this one:
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/tag/Laserjet/tg-p
The previous link appears to only follow posts in the install area. This new link follows threads across all subs like I intended. Much more recent activity too with a manageable work load at the moment (1-2 per day instead of 5-10 per hour).

Re: Printing, Personal Computing and Mobile Boards migrating to HP Support Forums
Here are some suggestions I wrote to one of the top members over at the new forum. I am not holding my breath since they did not ask for input I highly doubt they will use any we give them.
"They still need to rethink how they are doing this and if they can reverse some of what they have done they need to. Just start a new Community Topic, lets say IT Professional Printer and Digital Imaging and then just copy the complete Enterprise section they are migrating to the new Topic. You then have all the posts and the current layout that Enterprise had which was much better. Right now there is no topic for Laserjets which is a very big mistake since you have to go thru post after post of inkjet printers to find a laserjet question to answer. Also they need to allow attachments for everyone. It is nice when I can ask a poster to attach a sample of what is happening to try and solve the problem. Without it, it is hard sometimes to figure out what defect or problem the user is having. Thanks for all your help."

The "asking for opinions" bit seems to have been missed out of the loop - it should have been part of the planning process, prior to any execution.

Re: Printing, Personal Computing and Mobile Boards Migrating to HP Support Forums
1. As a user of this forum, I'd like the notification emails to contain the message body so that I don't have to waste precious time logging into the portal just to find out what a topic is about and whether I can really help.
2. As a user of this forum, I'd like the forum to also work in my default browser Chrome so that I don't have to paste the links into a new IE window.
Thanks for helping me practice story writing.

Re: Printing, Personal Computing and Mobile Boards migrating to HP Support Forums
I agree this is not being handled well. I respect the opinion that mixing home users with enterprise users has some drawbacks, but there are questions pertaining to the same products and issues across both communities. This is the main drawback of having separate communities. I initially joined several years ago and inadvertently ended up with an account in both groups. I didn't discover that until I came back switching back to HP after spending several years using another vendor. I would prefer that both communities and the respective accounts be merged completely.

This can not be done for legal reasons.
Going forward there will be two separate companies and two forums.
And all your PC/mobile topics have been moved to the Support forum.
Or do you now have two accounts in the Support forum due to the move and you want them merged?
If so, you need to ask there.

Re: Printing, Personal Computing and Mobile Boards migrating to HP Support Forums
I think you've hit on the eternal question regarding online forums: When do you divide, and when do you combine? Most times, those decisions are driven by much larger forces.
We went through very similar feedback when we merged the Business Support Center and IT Resource Center into the Enterprise Business Community several years ago. We heard that some people liked the fact that they did not have to go to three different places to ask questions about the same product, while others did not prefer the interplay between home, small business, and enterprise users. The legacy sites had many appreciative users, but did not offer the same security or other features of our current platform. Maintaining multiple sites covering the same data generates information disconnects, and leads to the same questions being asked multiple times, sometimes with overlapping or conflicting solutions.
Thank you for sharing feedback with us,
Warren_Admin, HP Enterprise Community Manager

Enterprise Business Support Forums: What Moved Where
This is the mapping of the boards as they were on the Enterprise Business Community, to their new host, the HP Support Forums. I do not have all of the URLs for these, but here are the names of the boards, old and new.

Re: Printing, Personal Computing and Mobile Boards Migrating to HP Support Forums
> Can you please note where Web Jetadmin subfourm has moved to?
There is no longer a dedicated WebJet Admin subforum on the new consumer website.
I'd like to think the most appropriate area would be JetAdvantage sub found here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/JetAdvantage-Printing-Applications-and-Services/bd-p/JetAdvantage
"Questions about HP JetAdvantage or other printing applications and services from HP? "
The most recent WJA posts appear to be under the generic printer software and drivers sub found here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/bd-p/Software
"Have questions on how to install a driver, or print from an application, post a question here."
Otherwise for the most exposure you could try your luck with the generic laserjet subs and provide propper tagging in hopes of attracting someone who can comment on your problem.
