HP Apollo D433 boot problems

Hi, to verybody who has a great memory!
I have here an Apollo D400 Series (to be exact D433s), wow that's a long time ago, for me any way. When I boot this system it comes up with the secondary loader, but hangs(!) after a while, with the exiting and very clear ;-( message: UNEXPECTED USE OF FFFFFFC4. Help, does anybody know this one and what to do about it?

Re: HP Apollo D433 boot problems

According to what I've read, it's documented in the HP 300 FAQ.

You might be able to find that through a link from
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22UNEXPECTED+USE+OF+FFFFFFC4%22&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&as_qdr=all&filter=0

Re: HP Apollo D433 boot problems

Thanks for your answer!
I have seen this, but there is nothing changed. One moment it was running and after I added a disc, reboot it again and it was stil running ok. On request of somebody, who liked to switch the power from one outlet to another, and a normal shutdown, I got this message....
Also in the the FAQ they are telling not to be worried.... It is hanging and doing nothing no heartbeat or anything.

Re: HP Apollo D433 boot problems

You might want to try booting in single user mode (-is). Currently this is documented in the man page for hpux, but don't know for your OS which I am guessing it is quite old, (9.x or earlier). If that doesn't work then I would suppose you need to look for a diagnostics CD.

Re: HP Apollo D433 boot problems

I have managed to get some Ignite recovery tape, deep down out of the basement of the office! After booting from this tape, I found out that the clusterconfig file was damaged...why I don't know.
After checked some things booted the system in a normal way, no problem any more.
Thanks for helping to both of you!

Re: HP Apollo D433 boot problems

Andre,

I remember these boxes...I still have a 68040 chip as a momento of that project. I'll do something rash and paste this to you from the HP database.

1) FFFFFFC4 indicates "incompatible operating system".
2) h/w problem, s/w reinstall, .....
3) If you run mediainit on the disc the boot-area will disappear and the
node won't boot from the swap disc.
4) I checked with the HW engineers. If the machine behaves this way
when not connected to anything, it is most likely a hardware problem.
5) you may check if all your cards are properly plugged in the computer

Hope that helps,
