Alletra 5010 vVol sizing with snapshot retention.
I was getting ready to spin up our new Alletra and basically recreate the volumes (but larger) that I have on my current Nimble. I started doing some digging into vvols as we've never utilized them before.
Vvols seem much easier to manage overall. So my questions are:
1) How much space do I exclude from the vvol(s) for snapshot retention?
2) I was planning on provisioning 22TiB for my volumes spread out into Prod, Non-Crit Prod, Crit, Crit FileServer, User VMs, and Dev. With vvols does it make since to present the same amount of storage (22TiB) and retain the other 8TiB for snapshots when my current data usage on my Nimble is about 14TiB?
I feel like I'm overthinking this and 1 single vvol would be fine since the IOPS are pretty low overall?
