A customer wants to connect the Nimble to his UCS FI via Appliance Ports, but has 1 gig connected servers that are outside of the UCS he wants to have access the Nimble array. Is this possible?

SolutionIt is indeed - it's possible to run iSCSI Data over the 1Gb ports - however this will have to be provisioned as a separate iSCSI subnet to ensure the traffic lives outside the UCS domain.
One thing to be aware of is the management; typically the 1Gb ports are connected to the management subnet in order for access to the system as well as autosupport, email and other functionality. If data was to be ran over 1Gb you would either only use either a) 1x1Gb port per controller for management and one for data or b) management and data over the same subnet - if the latter i'd recommend using VLANs to segregate the traffic.

Re: Can I use the dual 1 gig ports for data on a 10 gig CS500?
Thank you for that quick reply. Not ideal, but a short term solution until they put 10 gig in the core and can move the Nimble northbound from the UCS FI.
