dHCI AF20 Management

Hello,

For the dHCI install wizard to complete successfully. Do we have to use the AF20 on-board 10GBASE-T ports for Nimble management or can an additional 10GbE SFP+ card be installed and used for management?

I ask this, as currently the network switches only have SFP+ ports available.

Thanks

Assuming you have an open slot in the controllers, you could add an additional set of network cards and use those ports. However:

  1. When first powered up, the array looks to the 1/10Gb RJ45 ports for management
    NOTE: The AF20 on-board Base-T ports support 10Gb and 1Gb.
  2. dHCI requires the iSCSI traffic to be 10Gb or faster
  3. dHCI requires the ESXi traffic to be 10Gb or faster
  4. Once initialized, before running the dHCI stack setup, you can use the CLI to change the Management network ports to a different set of ports.

My team has set up quite a few customers with the array management using the on-board Base-T ports at 1Gb.

"...use the AF20 on-board 1GBASE-T ports for Nimble management" <grin>

Re: dHCI AF20 Management

An idea was to install an additiional 25GbE card for iSCSI and an additional 10GbE SFP+ card to use for Mgmt/Replication.

Though thinking about it, we should have 1Gb BASE-T connectivity somewhere for the iLOs of the servers so could keep mgmt on the on-board 1Gb ports and use the additional 10GbE SFP+ ports for replication.

Thanks
