ESXi direct connection from SYNERGY interconnects to Alletra storage
Hi
We are getting new HPE Alletra B series storage with HPE Synergy 12000 frame where ESXi servers will be installed. ESXi servers will use iSCSI to communicate to storage. ESXi hosts will use interconnects F32 100 GB direct connection to storage so there will not be any ethernet switch
So I have 2 scenarios in following images and my preferrence would be Scenario A
I would just like someone if you can confirm that this would be preferred connection with iSCSI. I know that with fabric channel scenario A would be also preferred but just wondering if this would be the same for iSCSI

Re: ESXi direct connection from SYNERGY interconnects to Alletra storage
Yes, Scenario A makes more sense, each switch connects to both controllers on the array. It should be fine for single iscsi subnet scenarios.
However, if you are planning for multiple iSCSI subnets, then it's recommended to dedicate a switch for each subnet, atleast on nimble, alletra 5k-6k arrays. Not sure, if it varies much on MP block, I will let the experts answer.

Re: ESXi direct connection from SYNERGY interconnects to Alletra storage
Hello,
i'm not a Synergy expert, but I know that the Alletra B10k doesn't support iSCSI direct connect.
As far as I remember, the Virtual Connect switches don't act as real switches, they are transparent to the host.
But that would mean it's practically equivalent to a "direct connect," which the storage doesn't support.
Or am I wrong?
