High CPU utilization on core switch ProCurve J9089A 2610

Been getting some odd CPU utilization that seems to spike at 99% every 5 to 10 minutes for several hours. This does not happen every day. On days it does happen, it seems to come and go roughly every 12 hours.

The only thing that changed was upgrading firmware (R.11.107 to R.11.122) on March 11 - this started happening on the 14th.

Hi ,

The firmware R.11.122 is the latest one so not sure if there is any software bug in it.

Cuold you please provide "show  Tech" log of the switch to find the root cause of the issue.?

What is the best way for me to get you that file to you? I see no way of attaching a file to this post.

Yes there is no way of attaching the file. Could you please provide me CPU utilization per process of the switch. You can enter the following commands:

"process-tracking",
"task-monitor cpu", and
"show cpu process"

Here is an example using the above commands:
Rack2sw3# process-tracking
<1-30> Configure the process-tracking time, specified in
seconds. The minimum value is 1 second, the maximum
value is 30 seconds. By default, the value is set to 30
seconds. If no time is specified, the default value of
30 seconds will be used.
slot Enable process tracking for a module.
<cr>

Rack2sw3# process-tracking
ATTENTION : You are enabling the 'Process-Tracking' capability for the module.
This can affect the performance of the module.

Do you want to enable Process-Tracking functionality [y/N]? y
Process-tracking started
Process-tracking time interval : 30 seconds

Rack2sw3# task-monitor cpu
Rack2sw3# show cpu process
Process tracker state: ACTIVE
Process tracking time: 30 seconds
Total % Time Since Times Max
Process Name Priority Time CPU Last Ran Ran Time
--------------------+----------+--------+-----+-----------+----------+-------
Idle-0 226 10 s 35 66 us 442049 100 us
Idle-3 1 6 s 21 57 us 884276 72 us
Idle-1 226 11 s 42 19 us 442149 85 us
