Autoloader 1/8 Ultrium 448 with HP ML380G4 NAS

Hi,

We have purchased HP autoloader 1/8 with Ultrium 448 and going to attach it on HP ML380G4 NAS box. HP ML380G4 has Win 2k3 Storage Server OS but we want to change it to RedHat Enterprise 3 WS. Controller in the server is 6402/128MB. Also, we are attaching MSA20 Enclosure for 2 TB storage with the server. Can we attach MSA20 and Autoloader on the same external SCSI channel? Will LInux Support Autoloader functions? Which Backup application we can configure on Redhat Linux, will HP Data protector can work with it? Controller 6402 supports LUN Scanning so that both robotics and Drive can be detected?

If you're referring to the Smart Array 6402, it is not one of the supported HBAs for the 1/8 448. You can find the tested/supported HBAs in the EBS compatability guide (www.hp.com/go/ebs).

I also don't believe it will work, as most RAID controllers do not support SCSI LUN addressing.

Here's the quickspecs for the 6402:

No mention of SCSI LUN support, and the only tape devices supported are hot plug DDS drives.

Most unix platforms have some type of changer control. I'm guessing it might be the "mtx" command on Linux (it's "mc" on HP-UX).

The EBS compatability matrix lists the tested/supported apps, and their OS support.

I wasn't sure if that's a question or statement. I don't believe the 6402 will address non-zero SCSI LUNs.
The journey IS the reward.
