Re: can't ping a dns trough a proxy server
Irving -- you should not be able to ping "untrusted" connections through a basic configuration of Proxy v2 from a client computer. The Proxy will perform the DNS lookups for you, but you won't be able to ping or do nslookups from your client.
You can configure the Proxy to perform this function, but most users don't exploit the more difficult configurations. Proxy is meant to easily set up secure access out while protecting the rest of the network. Performing the kinds of tasks you want to do will generally require either packet filtering on the Proxy and/or IP routing on the NT server, both of which are more difficult to do correctly and safely than use the proxy client to allow outbound access to the Internet.
