Exchange 2000 Server SP 2

Hi there!

My team is in charge of installing MS-Sharepoint Portal Server.
Exchange 2000 SP1 is a prerequisite.
I have downloaded SP2.
I have backed up my Exchange databases.
I have been reading the documentation on how to apply an Exchange SP. As well as the release notes.
Still I don't see it clear whether or not I should go ahead with the SP2 installation.

After applying an SP, it cannot be unistalled.
We would have to remove Exchange, reinstall and restore the databases. I am intimidated by the possible consequences.

Our organization, has only 1 Exchange server + 1 storage group, and no connectors.
Has any of you gone thru a similar situation?
What I am to expect?
Are there any considerations I should take forehand?

thank you
regards.

Re: Exchange 2000 Server SP 2

Hi Edgar,

you should install every service pack and security patch to have a secure mail server. If you are not shure, that you will have a stable system after installing the packs, than make a backup or a complete image of your hard disks (e. g. with norton ghost or what ever). After imaging you are able to reinstall the system within minutes.

With Exchange 2000 standard as well as enterprise I never had trouble while installing patches and sevice packs. Only with Small Business Server 2000 I had a problem, when installing the SBS service pack after updating Exchange.

For more information it is good to use the relevant microsoft newsgroups, because this is not a typical hp case.

Regards,
Manfred
