How to change default "Data Source" in Excel ??

Hi,

When I import data from excel (Menu Data-Import External Data-Import Data) by default it opens the folder "My Documents-My Data Sources". I want to change it to another folder. Does anybody knows how to do it?

Two things...

You can change the default location for Word, Access and Excel by changing the default location the "My Documents" points to.

Right-click on the "My documents" icon and select properties. Change the location to what ever folder you want.

You can directly change the document location in Excel by looking under" Tools, Options, General Tab, "Default File location".

I didn't find anything in the registry to set the location to a different location, but by default, Excel will create a location off of where ever you set up your Default document folder to be.

Jon,

this might be something, the author would not want. My impression is that he wants a shared folder but not move his my documents folder.

Re: How to change default "Data Source" in Excel ??

Hi,

I think I found it. There is a registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\DataServices
Change MyData and the data source moves.
