How to connect laptop to Network and internet

Hi ,
How can i connect my lap top to the netwrok and to the ineternet. I have done in solaris before. I made chages in the /etc/hosts,/etc/nsswitch.conf file and gave the ip in the /etc/defaultrouter..
Now how can i do this in hP. I want my system too connect to dhcpserver and take ip address from dhcp server and then i wnat to connect it to internet.I know in solaris,but can yuo help for HP.
if you have time pls,give detail steps..
2)wht is the default browser for HP-Ux .

What version of Windows are you running? What model is your laptop? Does it have a network 'card'? If yes and you have your Windows CD media, I would suggest you go to Network Properties and delete the TCP/IP protocol. Then reboot and re-install TCP/IP. The default settings should allow your computer to get an IP address from the DHCP server. Your laptop will need to be set to match the rest of the network as to Domain/Workgroup name. If you know how to do this do it before you reboot. If you don't let us know your OS and we'll tell you how to do it.

Once you've done both of those things, you should be able to go to a "Command prompt" and issue IPCONFIG command to see what address your computer got from DHCP server.

I'm taking a wild shot in the dark here, but i'm guessing you posted this in the wrong forum. if you have HP-UX, post it in the HP-UX forum, us microsoft guys have a hard enough time working out how to get windows working properly. And before anyone says anything, I administer a (small) linux network too (i'm not a one trick pony!).

Actually, why not upgrade to a proper operating system? try www.linux.org.

What I'm now getting is you want your HP-UX laptop to connect to Solaris OR HP-UX OR Windows servers for Internet access. Is that correct?

The easist way to set the IP information and others is to run:

set_parms initial

to set everything, or...

set_parms ip_address

to only set the ip address.


One of the options is to either enable DHCP support, or supply an IP address.

U r correct. I want to connect my Laptop with Hp-ux os to connect to the Hp-Server and then access the internet.
2)wht is the default browser for Hp-Ux 11 operating system. R there any files need to modify to access the internet.
