This is not part of the basic NT install but a remsh server is available through the NT 4.0 Server Resource Kit. See

http://resourcelink.mspress.microsoft.com/reslink/nt40/toolbox/tools/rshsvc.htm

For more information.

Can not able to download from the specified URL you have suggested. It only downloads 2.1 KB and that is nothing.

Let me clear one thing that from NT I can access my HP server by executing the rexec / esh commands but reverse I am not able to do.

Pl. clarify ......

Hello,

I'm not sure what version of HPUX you are running, but if you're running 11.0, check out the CIFS/Client software. It allows you to mount NT shares as if they were NFS mounts on the UNIX system. I'm not the best resource on that product but I'm sure the HPUX forum could give you more details.

Apart from that, you would have to look for a third-party tool. NetManage has some good interoperability products that you might want to check out.

Best regards,

To clarify, RSHSVC -- the server portion of REMSH that runs on NT -- is not part of the basic Microsoft product but is part of the NT Resource Kit. This is a for-purchase item (about $200) that includes gobs of other useful management tools.

You can probably find RSHSRV from the Resource Kit posted clandestinely on the Internet somewhere -- or you can find a remote shell service from another vendor. Try www.tucows.com or other shareware sites.

CIFS may work for you (as might SAMBA), but only if the applications you want to run against the data on the NT system are available in UNIX.

If what you really want is to bring up a command prompt on an NT system from your UNIX system, you can try the REMOTE utility, also part of the Resource Kit -- except Microsoft has made an update of the kit (update #4) available from its website that includes the REMOTE and WSREMOTE utilities, either of which may suit your purposes just fine.
